FREE IN-PERSON FERTILITY TALK · SINGAPORE

Preparing for Pregnancy: What Both Partners Can Do Before Trying

When you start thinking about having a baby, it can feel like there are suddenly hundreds of things you should be doing. Between advice about food, supplements and daily routines, knowing where to begin isn't always easy.

In this free 1-hour talk, women's health dietitian Xinthia Chua will help both partners understand what is worth focusing on — from nutrition and movement to sleep and everyday habits. You'll explore realistic ways to prepare together, without extreme diets or an overwhelming list of rules.

Preparing doesn't mean getting everything perfect, and no routine can guarantee a pregnancy. This session will help you understand what you can work on and what to discuss with your medical team. You'll leave with clear, practical next steps you can begin taking together.

Who it is for: Individuals and couples planning to try for a baby, already trying, considering fertility testing or treatment, preparing for IUI or IVF, or considering another treatment cycle. Partners who want to understand their role and anyone confused by fertility diets, exercise advice or supplements are welcome.

WHY IT ALL FEELS SO CONFUSING

There's No Shortage of Fertility Advice. That's Part of the Problem.

Search "how to prepare for pregnancy" and you'll find endless, often conflicting advice. Cut out this food. Take that supplement. Follow this strict routine. It's a lot to take in, and it's genuinely hard to know what actually matters and what's just noise.

A lot of that pressure tends to fall on the woman alone. But preparing for a baby was never meant to be a solo project. A partner's health and daily habits matter too, and going through it together tends to make the whole thing feel lighter.

A woman looking at her phone while her partner stands apart

Here's the honest part: some things are within your influence, and some simply aren't. Age, medical history and certain conditions play a role that no diet or routine can change. Trying to get everything perfect usually just adds stress, which is the last thing that helps.

What does help is knowing where to put your energy: a few realistic changes to nutrition, movement, sleep and everyday habits that both of you can actually stick to, and a clear sense of what's best left to your doctor.

This free hour isn't about doing more. It's about doing the few things that genuinely matter, together, and letting go of the rest, so you can prepare with a little more calm and a lot less guesswork.

What You'll Walk Away With

One Hour. Five Simple Places to Start.

The talk is built around five everyday areas you can actually do something about, together. Here's what each one covers.

Nourish — eating well without the "fertility diet."

How to build regular, balanced meals from familiar foods you already enjoy, instead of restrictive rules or an endless list of supplements.

Move — the right amount, not the most.

Where movement and strength training genuinely help before pregnancy, and how to stay active without overdoing it or under-fuelling.

Recover — sleep and stress really do count.

Why rest, routine and managing stress matter as much as what's on your plate, and simple habits you can keep up even through appointments or treatment.

Reduce — small, sensible changes.

A calm look at smoking, alcohol and other avoidable habits, with proportionate changes both partners can make, no fear-based rules.

Discuss — know what to bring to your doctor.

How to tell which questions are best answered by your fertility team, so you spend less time second-guessing yourself online.

You won't leave with a rigid plan or a long list of dos and don'ts, just a clear, realistic sense of where to begin, and what to leave to the professionals.

Meet Your Speaker

Dietitian Xinthia Chua in a kitchen with fresh produce

Xinthia Chua is a Women's Health Dietitian who spends her days helping women and couples make sense of nutrition, without the fads, the guilt, or the endless rules. She holds a BSc (Honours) in Dietetics with Nutrition, and focuses her practice on fertility, PMOS, and sustainable weight management.

What sets her apart isn't only her qualifications, it's her approach. She works with real Singaporean lives and real food, turning confusing science into a handful of practical, doable steps. No punishing "fertility diet," no shopping list of supplements, just clear guidance you can actually follow.

For this session, she's partnered with the team at MOVE Private Fitness, bringing nutrition and movement together so both partners can prepare with a little more clarity and a lot less stress.

She teaches the way she practises: warm, honest, and practical, and always clear about where general advice ends and your own doctor's guidance begins.

Before You Reserve

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to prepare or bring anything?

No preparation needed, just come as you are, with any questions on your mind. There's nothing to read or fill in beforehand.

Can I bring my partner?

Yes, and we'd encourage it. This talk is designed for both partners. One thing to note: each person needs to reserve their own free seat separately, so we can plan the room. The easiest way is to share this page with your partner so they can reserve their own seat too. (Coming on your own is just as welcome.)

Is this medical advice?

No. This session provides general education on nutrition, movement and lifestyle before conception or fertility treatment. It does not provide a medical diagnosis or individual treatment recommendations. Any decisions about fertility investigations or treatment should be made with your own fertility doctor and healthcare team.

We haven't started trying for a baby yet, or we're already in treatment. Is it still relevant?

Yes. Whether you're just thinking about it, actively trying to conceive, or already going through IUI or IVF, the session focuses on everyday preparation that applies across all of those stages.

What happens after I register?

You'll receive a confirmation email with the date, time and venue details. Do keep an eye on your inbox (and your spam folder, just in case).
